Kosovo’s Minister of Agriculture, Armend Muja, has pledged government support for farmers whose crops were damaged by a recent hailstorm in the Municipality of Istog.
During a visit to the affected areas, Muja inspected the damage to agricultural fields and met with local producers to discuss the challenges they are facing following the severe weather.
The minister said the immediate priority is for the municipal assessment commission to complete an evaluation of the damage, which will serve as the basis for further government assistance.
Muja also announced plans to launch a pilot agricultural insurance program aimed at improving farmers’ resilience to weather-related losses. In addition, he said the government will expand support for anti-hail protection nets to help reduce the impact of future storms on agricultural production.
He further revealed that the 2026 Agricultural Grants Scheme will open next week, providing financial support to help affected farmers restore production and recover from the losses caused by the hailstorm.
The government says the planned measures are intended to strengthen the agricultural sector’s ability to cope with increasingly frequent extreme weather events and improve long-term protection for farmers across Kosovo.
