Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Glauk Konjufca, has chaired the inaugural meeting of a working group tasked with drafting and coordinating a state strategy concerning appeal proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
Konjufca said the meeting focused on the main directions of the strategy, the appointment of teams responsible for drafting it, and the establishment of an overall work plan.
“Our commitment is to ensure that the leaders of our liberation war receive the full support of the state of Kosovo in their appeal battle,” Konjufca said.
He added that Kosovo would continue to defend its account of the Kosovo Liberation Army’s (KLA) war internationally and firmly oppose what he described as attempts to distort its history.
“Alongside this support, we will resolutely defend the truth of our liberation war on the international stage and oppose every attempt to distort it,” he said.
Konjufca emphasized that the KLA remains a unifying symbol for Kosovo’s political institutions and society, despite political differences.
“The KLA unites us all beyond our differences, because its liberation war lies at the foundation of our freedom and our state,” he said.
He also stressed that all institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and political forces have a responsibility to remain united in supporting the appeal process.
The initiative comes as the defense teams for former KLA leaders pursue appeals against their convictions before the Specialist Chambers, which were established under Kosovo law and operate in The Hague.
