A powerful storm that swept through North Macedonia’s capital, Skopje, on Tuesday afternoon left 15 people injured, with two victims suffering serious injuries, health authorities have confirmed.
Nine of the injured were treated at the University Clinic for Traumatology, Orthopaedic Diseases, Anaesthesia, Reanimation, Intensive Care and Emergency Centre (TOARILUC), while six others were admitted to the University Clinic for Surgical Diseases “St. Naum Ohridski.”
TOARILUC Director Igor Mrxhanoski said two patients sustained more serious injuries. One woman, who suffered a head injury, was admitted to the Neurosurgery Department, while another patient sustained a fractured arm.
The six patients treated at the “St. Naum Ohridski” clinic suffered cuts and bruises and received outpatient care. Hospital director Nebojša Nastov said three patients were discharged after treatment, while the remaining three were still undergoing medical examinations.
“All of them are in stable condition. At this stage, none appear to require prolonged hospitalization,” Nastov said.
According to hospital officials, one person was injured after being struck by a falling tree, another was hit by a sheet of metal blown off a roof, while a third was injured by falling ceramic roof tiles.
The General City Hospital “8 September” reported that it did not receive any storm-related casualties. However, the hospital itself sustained significant material damage.
Hospital director Siniša Stojanoski said the full extent of the damage will be determined after a comprehensive on-site inspection and the completion of an official assessment.
Authorities continue to assess the impact of the severe weather, which caused widespread damage across parts of Skopje.
