The Iraqi government says there is no evidence that its territory was used to launch drone attacks against Saudi Arabia earlier this week, rejecting claims made by Riyadh.
According to CNN, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said the drone attacks, allegedly launched from Iraq, targeted critical infrastructure and the capital, Riyadh, on Monday and Tuesday.
“So far, no party has presented any evidence to support these claims,” Iraqi Prime Minister’s spokesperson Sabah Al-Numan told the Iraqi News Agency.
“The government will not tolerate any unilateral actions originating from within Iraq, while at the same time it will not accept any violations coming from outside its borders,” Al-Numan added.
On Wednesday, joint U.S.-Saudi strikes in Iraq killed at least 20 people and wounded 32 others, according to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), an Iran-linked Iraqi militia.
Earlier this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi pledged during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump that Iraq would confront Iran-backed militias operating on its territory—an objective that previous Iraqi governments had struggled to achieve.
