Kosovo Police and Customs have intercepted two suspected smuggling operations involving goods transported illegally from Serbia, following a joint operation in the border area near the municipality of Ranillug.
According to Kosovo Police, the operation was carried out on Thursday as part of a tactical operational plan targeting illegal cross-border activities along the mountainous routes near the village of Korminjan.
During the operation, officers identified two vehicles that had allegedly entered Kosovo through unauthorized mountain crossings from Serbian territory.
A subsequent inspection uncovered various goods without accompanying customs or ownership documentation. Authorities said the products are suspected of having been illegally brought into Kosovo and, based on their labeling, were manufactured in Serbia.
“Checks established that the goods were not accompanied by documentation confirming their origin or customs clearance procedures. Acting on the authorization of the duty prosecutor in Gjilan, the vehicles and the goods were seized and transferred to the customs terminal for further assessment and safekeeping,” Kosovo Police said in a statement.
Legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the case, while the investigation will continue under the competent units of Kosovo Police in coordination with Kosovo Customs.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to combating smuggling and other illegal cross-border activities, emphasizing that such operations are aimed at protecting the rule of law, safeguarding the country’s economy, and strengthening public security.
