U.S.-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel will resume Thursday morning after discussions ended earlier than expected on Wednesday due to developments on the ground, a U.S. State Department official said.
The talks ended at around 3:30 p.m. Rome time, earlier than initially scheduled. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the negotiations would resume Thursday morning.
The discussions focused on a range of political and military issues and were described by the U.S. official as “extremely productive.”
“Technical teams made progress in defining key details on the implementation of the trilateral framework,” the official said.
The talks are part of U.S.-backed efforts to address security and political issues between Lebanon and Israel amid continued tensions in the region.
A senior State Department official had previously told Al Arabiya English that there was “an important moment” ahead of the negotiations, pointing to the successful launch of the first pilot zone in southern Lebanon and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House last month.
The resumption of talks on Thursday is expected to focus on further details of the framework and its implementation, as Washington continues efforts to advance a broader arrangement between the two countries.
