Ukraine has announced that it struck two oil refineries deep inside Russian territory, as well as several vessels in the Black Sea, in a series of drone attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the targets included the Bashneft-Novoil and Slavneft-Yanos refineries, with the aim of reducing oil revenues that, according to him, Moscow uses to finance the war.
The governor of Russia’s Yaroslavl region, Mikhail Evraev, said the Slavneft-Yanos refinery caught fire following what he described as the largest drone attack on the region. He reported that four people were injured.
Zelensky stated that the Bashneft-Novoil refinery is located approximately 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, while Slavneft-Yanos is around 700 kilometers away.
The Ukrainian president also said that two military patrol vessels in the Black Sea, as well as ships belonging to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” were targeted. These vessels are allegedly used by Moscow to transport sanctioned oil exports.
Meanwhile, Ukraine reported that at least 11 people were killed in Russian attacks, while the southern city of Kherson was left without electricity.
Russia said its strikes targeted fuel, energy, and transportation facilities.
Both sides have intensified attacks on cities, energy infrastructure, and storage facilities, while diplomatic efforts to end the war have so far failed to produce significant progress.
