Kosovo’s newly elected lawmakers are expected to reconvene tonight to continue the constitutive session of the Assembly, with a vote on the next Assembly speaker potentially taking place.
According to reports, the session is expected to resume around 8 or 9 p.m., with the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) expected to put forward its candidate for speaker.
The development comes as LVV leader and caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti is meeting with Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) leader Lumir Abdixhiku as political parties seek an agreement to unblock the formation of Kosovo’s new institutions.
The talks are reportedly focused on the constitution of the Assembly as well as broader political issues, including the election of Kosovo’s next president.
The outcome of tonight’s political talks and Assembly session could prove crucial for determining whether the new legislature can move forward with the formation of Kosovo’s institutions after the earlier session was suspended when no candidate was put forward for speaker.
