At least three people, including a child, have been killed in Russian strikes overnight near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, a local official has said.
In the early hours of Saturday, missiles struck areas east of the capital, while witnesses reported powerful explosions, just days after attacks across Ukraine killed 21 people.
The ballistic missile strikes killed three people and injured three others, said Timur Tkachenko, head of the regional military administration. He added that missile debris damaged residential buildings and vehicles, while a fire broke out in another building.
Emergency crews were also battling fires at a building and a fuel storage facility in Kyiv, the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said on Telegram.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) released photographs showing garages, a business, and a building engulfed in flames in Kyiv, adding that “the number of casualties is being verified.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, for his first visit to Serbia. He is expected to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to discuss economic ties, security issues, and relations with the European Union.
