President Donald Trump has announced that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of August to spend more time with her young children and family.
Trump described Leavitt as one of his most trusted aides and praised her performance during her time at the White House. He said he understood and respected her decision to step away from the demanding position.
Leavitt, 28, has served as the administration’s chief spokesperson and has been responsible for the White House’s day-to-day communication with the media. She became the youngest person ever to serve as White House press secretary.
Although she is leaving her official position, Trump said Leavitt will remain closely involved as one of his top outside advisers and will continue to play an influential role within the Republican Party as the party prepares for the upcoming midterm elections.
Leavitt recently returned to the White House after taking maternity leave following the birth of her second child. Her departure comes after roughly a year and a half in the role.
Trump praised her political work dating back to his 2024 presidential campaign and said he expects her to remain an important part of his political operation even after leaving the White House.
No successor has been announced yet.
