The Kosovo Police have found weapons and military uniforms bearing Serbian flag symbols in the village of Dren, Zubin Potok, near the properties of Nenad Rashković, the man who claimed that he was beaten by members of the Kosovo Police.
According to video footage obtained by Telegrafi, the weapons and equipment discovered during Tuesday’s operation can be seen.
The latest development comes as institutions continue investigating Rashković’s allegations that he was mistreated by police officers.
On August 11, Kosovo Police Deputy Director for the Northern Region Veton Elshani said that the police had no information indicating that its officers had beaten anyone, but that the case had been reported to the Kosovo Police Inspectorate.
Regarding the allegations, the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (KPI) announced that it had launched a preliminary investigation ex officio and had begun gathering information.
According to reports, KPI officials interviewed Rashković at the hospital in an effort to clarify the circumstances of the case.
Rashković himself gave Serbian-language media an account that differed in several details from the version presented by the Serb List.
He said that after being tied up in the forest, the police officers released him and that he then returned home on his own. According to him, three police officers were present at the scene, but only one of them beat him.
Meanwhile, Serb List leader and director of the Clinical Hospital Center in North Mitrovica, Zlatan Elek, announced that Rashković had been transferred to Belgrade for treatment.
However, before Kosovo’s institutions had completed their investigations and before the Kosovo Police Inspectorate had published its findings, Serbian officials presented the case as evidence of “systematic violence” against Serbs in Kosovo.
Within hours, the Serb List, officials of Serbian institutions in the north, Serbian media and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić reacted. Vučić himself visited Rashković in Belgrade.
The allegations of beating and mistreatment were immediately transformed into a central issue in Serbian political discourse.
