A drone crashed on Romanian territory during a new wave of Russian airstrikes against Ukraine, raising renewed concerns over security along NATO’s eastern flank.

According to Romanian authorities, the unmanned aerial vehicle came down in an uninhabited area in Tulcea County, near the border with Ukraine.

The incident occurred in a region that has previously experienced suspected drone incursions linked to Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure along the Danube.

The drone crash was reported as Russia launched another wave of aerial attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv and the surrounding region, where the strikes caused casualties and significant damage.

Romania, a NATO member, has repeatedly faced security concerns linked to Russian attacks near its border. Debris from drones and suspected incursions into Romanian airspace have previously prompted heightened military surveillance and air-defense measures.

Meanwhile, Poland, another NATO member bordering Ukraine, also activated additional air-security measures in response to the latest Russian strikes.

Polish armed forces placed military aircraft and air-defense systems on heightened alert, particularly in areas close to the Ukrainian border, as a precaution against potential violations of Polish airspace.

The incidents in Romania and Poland underscore the broader risks posed by the war in Ukraine to neighboring NATO members, particularly as Russian drones and missiles increasingly operate close to Alliance airspace.
