The Director General of the Kosovo Police, Colonel Gazmend Hoxha, met with the newly appointed European Union Ambassador to Kosovo and Head of the EU Office, Dirk Schübel, during an official introductory meeting.
Hoxha, accompanied by members of his staff, welcomed Schübel to his new position and briefed him on the Kosovo Police’s key responsibilities, priorities and challenges in maintaining public order and security for all citizens.
Schübel officially assumed his mandate as EU Ambassador in Kosovo on September 1, 2026. He also serves as the EU Special Representative for Kosovo, with a mandate focused on supporting Kosovo’s European perspective, strengthening stability and promoting the rule of law.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the role of the Kosovo Police in maintaining security and strengthening institutional cooperation with European partners.
Schübel has said that he looks forward to working closely with Kosovo’s institutions, political actors, civil society, media and all communities to support Kosovo’s progress toward EU integration.
His appointment comes with a two-year initial mandate, running from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2028. He succeeds Aivo Orav as the EU Special Representative for Kosovo.
For Kosovo, cooperation with the EU remains closely linked to strengthening the rule of law, democratic institutions and security structures—areas in which the Kosovo Police plays a central role.
