Wildfires in Albania: 11 Active Fires, More Than 1,000 Personnel Deployed to Fight the Flames

Albania’s Ministry of Defense reports that 43 wildfires were recorded over the past 24 hours, of which 11 remain active, eight are under surveillance, and 24 have been declared extinguished.

A total of 614 local personnel, 355 Armed Forces personnel, 70 local firefighting vehicles, and Armed Forces equipment have been deployed in the operations. Authorities have also carried out four helicopter operations and one operation involving an Air Tractor aircraft.

Tirana County

On Mount Dajti, the fire remains active across areas covered by beech forest and shrubs. The operation involves 25 firefighters, seven Civil Protection personnel, 74 Armed Forces personnel with 10 vehicles and one ambulance, as well as one Air Tractor aircraft. There is no threat to populated areas.

Meanwhile, fires in Kryezi, Kavajë, and Mount Berzhita remain under surveillance.

Dibër County

Four fires remain active: in Vajkal, Bulqizë; Lundrë–Madhesh, Mat; Qafa e Helmes, Fushë-Bulqizë; and Cerrujë–Mali i Allushit, Klos.

In Lundrë–Madhesh, 33 local personnel have been deployed, supported by 37 Armed Forces personnel with three vehicles and one ambulance. One Air Force helicopter has also operated in the area.

Authorities report no threat to populated areas from the active fires.

Lezhë County

Fires remain active in Gallatë, Kurbin, and Kalivaç–Zimaj–Kashnjet, Lezhë.

The most intensive situation is in Kalivaç–Zimaj–Kashnjet, where 63 local and volunteer personnel and 132 Armed Forces personnel have been deployed, supported by seven vehicles, three firefighting trucks and two ambulances. One Air Force helicopter has also operated in the area.

The threat to homes has been contained.

Elbasan County

A fire remains active in Gurëshpatë, Polis administrative unit, Librazhd, where Librazhd firefighting forces are operating.

There is no threat to populated areas.

The fire on Mount Qukës, Prrenjas, remains under surveillance.

Shkodër County

Three main fires remain active: in Mnelë e Vogël, Vau i Dejës; Bardhaj–Myselim, Shkodër; and Mount Tërbun, Pukë.

In Bardhaj–Myselim, local structures and 58 Armed Forces personnel have been deployed with firefighting equipment and an ambulance. One Air Force helicopter has also operated in the area.

In Tërbun, 46 local and police personnel and 42 Armed Forces personnel are operating with six vehicles and an ambulance.

Authorities report no threat to homes in either area.

Fires in Iballë and Bërdicë remain under surveillance.

Vlorë County

The fire in Bolenë, Horë-Vranisht, Himarë, is under surveillance by Himarë firefighting forces.

The fire that had reignited in Kropisht, Selenicë, has been declared extinguished.

Fier County

Fires in Peshtan, Fier, and Çërrilë, Mallakastër, remain under surveillance by firefighting forces, respectively affecting areas with olive groves and forests containing pine, oak and shrubs.

The National Civil Protection Agency continues to monitor the situation across the country around the clock, in close coordination with prefectures, municipalities and all structures within the Civil Protection system.

Operational capacities remain deployed in the field and on standby to intervene wherever necessary, with the priority of protecting lives, homes, citizens’ property and the environment.
