Kosovo has imposed a temporary anti-dumping duty of €0.04 per kilogram on imports of wheat seed for planting originating from Serbia.
The decision was announced by Acting Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation Mimoza Kusari-Lila in a post on Facebook.
According to Kusari-Lila, the measure follows an investigation conducted by the ministry and preliminary evidence indicating that Serbian wheat seed was being imported at dumping prices, causing harm to domestic producers.
“Domestic producers will not be left unprotected against unfair competition. Our market should be open, but it must also be fair,” Kusari-Lila wrote.
She said Kosovo’s institutions would use all available legal instruments to protect domestic production, fair competition and the country’s economic interests.
“We will use every legal instrument available to protect domestic production, competition and Kosovo’s economic interest,” she said.
The temporary measure comes as Kosovo seeks to strengthen safeguards for local producers against what authorities consider unfair trade practices.
The final outcome of the anti-dumping investigation will determine whether the temporary duty remains in place or is modified or lifted.
