Vučić’s new election video is quite something. He plays waiter while a family orders highways, pensions, hospitals, free education, no sanctions on Russia and, naturally, “saving Kosovo.” Then comes the comedy: the two young people at the table supposedly want Vučić to leave and Serbia to join the EU and NATO.
There’s just one small problem with this little political fairy tale: Serbian young people are not exactly lining up for NATO membership. The research cited by Danas puts support among young people at only around 11%, while opposition to NATO remains overwhelmingly higher, and Russia continues to have far greater appeal.
So Vučić’s campaign has created its own version of Serbian youth one where they suddenly demand NATO while the real numbers tell a very different story. A waiter, a fictional family and a fictional political menu all served with Vučić’s favourite ingredient: “peace and stability.”
