The European Union has told Serbia’s next government, which will emerge following the elections, that it is expected to engage constructively in the dialogue on normalizing relations with Kosovo, including implementing all agreements reached to date.
An EU spokesperson said the outcome of Serbia’s latest elections does not change the foundations of, or obligations arising from, the EU-facilitated dialogue.
“The EU-facilitated dialogue does not depend on individual political leaders. All existing obligations remain valid, including the 2023 Agreement on the Path to Normalisation and its Implementation Annex (the Ohrid Agreement),” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that it was too early at this stage to speculate about possible changes in Serbia’s position in the dialogue and their implications for the process.
“We expect Serbia to continue engaging constructively, honour its existing obligations and contribute to the process of normalisation. The EU remains ready to engage with the new leadership to maintain momentum in this process,” the spokesperson said.
