NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Alexus G. Grynkewich, visited Kosovo, where he met with KFOR Commander Major General Roberto Vergori and senior representatives of Kosovo’s institutions.

According to a statement from KFOR, the visit reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to stability in Kosovo and the wider region, while providing an opportunity to discuss the ongoing optimization of the mission.

During the meetings, officials reiterated that long-term security ultimately depends on a political solution, inclusive dialogue and cooperation.

The alliance said the ongoing adjustments to KFOR’s deployment are based on a joint assessment of positive developments in the security environment.

Any changes to the mission’s size and composition will be implemented carefully and gradually, KFOR said. Adjustments will remain subject to continuous assessments on the ground and reversible if significant security developments threaten local safety or regional stability.

During his visit, Grynkewich and Vergori also met with representatives of the Kosovo institutions and subsequently with representatives of the Serb List.

The visit concluded at the Gračanica Monastery, where the NATO commanders met with religious representatives.

KFOR stressed that it would continue to serve as a steadfast guarantor of stability, contributing to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo.

The mission said it would continue carrying out its mandate under the relevant United Nations Security Council framework, impartially and at all times.
