A Belgrade court has ordered businessman Davor Macura and two other suspects to remain in custody for up to 30 days in connection with the investigation involving Alta Bank.

The decision was announced by the Higher Court in Belgrade’s Special Department for Organized Crime, according to a statement reported by Serbia’s N1.

The court ordered the detention of Macura and the two other defendants, identified by their initials G.M. and I.P., citing concerns that they could obstruct the proceedings by influencing witnesses and might commit further criminal offenses within a short period.

The court also ordered Macura’s detention on grounds of possible flight risk.

Macura is suspected of committing the criminal offense of abuse of position by a responsible person, under Article 227, paragraphs 1 and 3 of Serbia’s Criminal Code.

The other two defendants, G.M. and I.P., are suspected of assisting in the same alleged offense.

The court said the detention measures were imposed under Article 211 of Serbia’s Criminal Procedure Code.

The ruling can be appealed before the Higher Court’s criminal non-trial panel within three days of its receipt.

The suspects have not been convicted, and the allegations against them remain subject to judicial proceedings.
