Germany announced on July 5 that it has sent another Patriot air defense system to Ukraine, as Kyiv continues to face the invasion initiated by Russia.
“The third Patriot system from Germany has now arrived in Ukraine,” said the German ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Jaeger, in a post on X.
In April, Berlin had announced that it would provide Kyiv with these types of air defense systems.
Ukraine is urging its Western supporters to send more air defenses, especially the U.S.-made Patriot systems. This system is capable of shooting down Russia’s hypersonic missiles.
More than two years since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, Moscow continues to attack Kyiv’s energy system, forcing Ukraine to implement electricity reductions.
In addition to the Patriot system, Berlin has provided Kyiv with other weapons, ranging from artillery to armored vehicles. Despite Germany’s military aid to Ukraine worth billions of euros, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has faced criticism in recent months for not allowing the delivery of Taurus long-range missiles.
Germany has expressed concern that these missiles could be used to target deep inside Russia.
