Today marks 12 years since the removal of the commemorative plaque honoring the martyrs of the UÇPMB (Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa, and Bujanovac).

On that day, a significant number of Serbian police forces, accompanied by gendarmerie units, carried out the operation to remove the memorial, which had been placed in front of the municipal administration building in Preševo.

The Operation

The operation began with the arrival of 200 gendarmerie personnel in the town square. Around 7:00 AM, an excavator uprooted and removed the plaque, which was then loaded onto a truck and transported to an undisclosed location.

Key figures present during the operation included:

  • Bratislav Dikić, Commander of the Gendarmerie
  • The Chief of Vranje Police
  • Avdi Bajrami, Commander of the Preševo Police Station

Public Response

A small number of local citizens observed the operation, but there was no significant reaction or incidents reported during or after the removal.

The removal of the UÇPMB memorial plaque remains a symbolic event in the history of tensions in the Preševo Valley, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the Albanian community in the region.
