U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he will hold a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin tomorrow to discuss the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine.
This follows positive discussions between U.S. and Russian officials in Moscow.
“We want to see if we can end this war. Maybe we can, maybe not, but I think we have a good chance,” Trump said to reporters during a flight from Florida to Washington, according to Reuters, as reported by Gazeta Sinjali.
President Trump has been trying to secure Putin’s support for a 30-day ceasefire, which Ukraine agreed to last week.
Heavy fighting has continued, with airstrikes from both sides and Russian forces attempting to push Ukrainian soldiers out of the Kursk region.
On the other hand, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz have stated that there are still challenges to resolve before Russia agrees to a ceasefire and a peace deal.
Rubio emphasized that peace would require “concessions from both sides” and that negotiations would be difficult as long as the fighting continues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism about ending the war but insisted that his country’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and that Russia must withdraw from the occupied territories, including Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
