Kosovo’s Acting Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, has strongly criticized the decision of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers to deny former President Hashim Thaçi permission to attend his father’s funeral.

Earlier, the KLA War Veterans’ Association (OVL-UÇK) confirmed that the court had rejected Thaçi’s request to be present at the funeral of his father, Haxhi Thaçi.

Haxhiu called the decision “absurd” and emphasized that attending a parent’s funeral is a fundamental human right.

“Judicial processes must be fair and grounded in the respect of fundamental human rights. There is nothing more humane than attending the funeral of a parent. Therefore, it is completely absurd that, as reported by the media, former President Thaçi has been denied permission to participate in his father’s funeral. Regarding this unjust decision, I will formally address the President of the Specialist Chambers,” Haxhiu stated.

The decision has sparked widespread criticism, with many arguing that it undermines basic human dignity and justice.
