Two runners have tragically lost their lives during a half-marathon held on Sunday in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, organizers confirmed, according to RKS News.
Akkoyan Rsaliyev, 84 years old, lost consciousness at the beginning of the race, while Akhmadi, 21 years old, passed away after covering about 16 kilometers (10 miles).
Both were well-known runners and regular participants in long-distance events.
“The corporate foundation ‘Courage to Be First’ expresses its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased,” said the organizers in a statement, according to Reuters.
