Just moments before Kosovo’s Parliament resumed its constitutive session, the leader of Nisma Socialdemokrate, Fatmir Limaj, made a brief but pointed statement, expressing confidence that the country will soon overcome the institutional deadlock.
“Kosovo will form its institutions,” Limaj said, avoiding any direct answer regarding whether his party will support Vetëvendosje’s candidate, Albulena Haxhiu, for Speaker of the Assembly.
His comment comes amid heightened speculation about behind-the-scenes negotiations between VV and NISMA, as the ruling party struggles to secure the necessary votes for Haxhiu after failing twice during the April 19 session.
During that previous session, NISMA withheld support for VV’s nominee, further complicating the already tense process of electing parliamentary leadership.
A Coalition Still in Play?
Although Limaj had previously expressed openness to a coalition with VV following the February elections — in which NISMA ran jointly with AAK — his silence today leaves the situation unclear.
As Kosovo awaits the outcome of the vote, Limaj’s brief remark adds to the political suspense: will NISMA break the deadlock, or will the country remain without functioning institutions?
