North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea (Sea of Japan) on Thursday, according to South Korea’s military. This marks the first such test since March of this year.

The missiles traveled up to 800 kilometers (approximately 497 miles) before splashing down in the sea. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirmed that the launch took place around 8:10 AM local time (2310 GMT on Wednesday) from North Korea’s Wonsan city on the eastern coast.

In response, the JCS indicated that the military had bolstered surveillance for any further launches and was in full readiness. Information on the missile launch has been shared with the United States and Japan.

This missile test follows a previous launch on March 10, coinciding with South Korea and the U.S. conducting their annual joint military drills.

The ongoing developments highlight increased tension in the region, particularly concerning North Korea’s ongoing missile and nuclear activity.
