U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance held an important meeting in Rome on Sunday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Following their attendance at Pope Leo’s enthronement mass, the discussion focused on the possibility of resuming trade talks between the European Union and the United States.
“Europe remains a strong ally for us, although, like true friends, there are issues where we do not always agree, including trade,” Vance said in the presence of the two European leaders.
He emphasized the importance of sustained economic cooperation and expressed optimism about a new negotiation process that will bring mutual benefits to both sides.
This meeting signals a renewed effort to overcome trade tensions and pave the way toward a more sustainable transatlantic economic partnership.
