Panic erupted in a San Diego neighborhood after a small plane crashed early Thursday morning, causing fires in about 15 houses and several vehicles.
Authorities quickly evacuated entire blocks of buildings, while visibility was nearly zero due to heavy fog, officials reported.
“We have aviation fuel everywhere. Our main goal is to check each house one by one and make sure everyone is evacuated,” said Deputy Fire Chief Dan Eddy during an emergency media briefing.
Eddy noted there was a “direct impact on several homes” in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood and described “a large debris field.” It remains unclear if there are any casualties or injuries. The rescue operation is ongoing.
