The candidate for Speaker of the Assembly and Vetëvendosje MP, Albulena Haxhiu, has once again called on all MPs to participate in the vote to establish the committee for secret voting, a crucial step in constituting Kosovo’s new legislature.
“I don’t know how many more times we have to state Vetëvendosje’s position. We’ve repeatedly said that the right to propose the Speaker of the Assembly belongs to Vetëvendosje. We’ve already made our nomination,” she said.
“What’s needed now is for all MPs to participate in the vote — whether they’re in favor, against, or abstaining. But coming to Parliament and not voting makes no sense. Why show up, if not to vote?”
She emphasized the importance of forming the committee so the secret ballot process for Speaker can proceed. She also acknowledged that a case is currently pending before the Constitutional Court, saying:
“We hope the Court gives its opinion as soon as possible.”
Regarding potential cooperation with Nisma, led by Fatmir Limaj, Haxhiu confirmed that talks have taken place and the party is viewed as a governing partner:
“We’ve stated that we see them as our partners. There have been meetings. Discussions are ongoing, and we hope they conclude soon. But before forming a government, we need to form the Assembly.”
In her closing remarks, Haxhiu urged all MPs to support the formation of the secret voting committee, emphasizing openness to political collaboration — but with limits:
“Regardless of past positions and disagreements, we are very open to cooperate with other political parties. However, we will never accept unreasonable or unjustified demands that go against the Constitution or the ruling of the Constitutional Court.”
