On day 1,212 of the war in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed readiness for peace negotiations, but only under specific conditions set by Moscow, reports RKS News.
Speaking during a meeting with international media leaders, Putin said he is open to meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but only at a final stage of negotiations that aim to end the conflict.
However, Putin cast doubt on Zelensky’s legitimacy, claiming his presidential term expired in May 2024, and due to martial law, elections have not been held in Ukraine.
“The question is: who will sign the agreement?” Putin asked.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high, with Ukrainian military intelligence official Andriy Chernyak warning that Russia is expanding its military presence in the Arctic, a key region for natural resources and future maritime routes.
In contrast, Putin downplayed the threat from NATO’s rearmament, stating he does not see it as a direct threat to Russia’s security.
