On World Refugee Day, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, reflected on her personal experience as a refugee, emphasizing that refugees are not statistics but powerful stories of survival and resilience.

Osmani wrote that the experience of being a refugee remains vivid in the memory of the people of Kosovo, who suffered mass expulsion from their homes during the last war.

“Refugees are not numbers. They are stories of survival, strength, and hope. I too was a refugee, just like the vast majority of the people of Kosovo, expelled from our homes by Milosevic’s genocidal actions.”

The President added that this day serves as a reminder that no one chooses to be a refugee, but anyone can become one.

“On World Refugee Day, we must remind ourselves that no one wishes to be a refugee, but anyone could become one.”

“We remember what it means to lose your home, your safety, your voice. We vow never to forget,” Osmani wrote.
