U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, said his administration achieved peace between several nations in a short time — including Serbia and Kosovo.

Trump claimed that Serbia was close to entering a war “with a group” and added that a Serbian friend told him they were about to go to war with Kosovo again, but that it didn’t happen because “we stopped it.”

“This is an extraordinary breakthrough. In just a few months, we made peace between India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, and between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, as well as several others. Serbia, you know, was about to go to war with a group. I won’t mention which — because it didn’t happen — we stopped it.”

“But I have a friend in Serbia who told me, ‘We’re going to war again.’ And I don’t want to say it’s Kosovo — but it’s Kosovo. They were going to start a big war, but we stopped it. We stopped it because of trade. They want to trade with the United States. I told them: we don’t do business with people who go to war,” Trump stated.

He addressed the topic again during a press conference on June 27, saying he threatened to cut off Serbia’s trade with the U.S. due to the risk of an attack on Kosovo that could lead to a “major war.”

“We did a lot of work. I don’t know if any president worked harder than I did. Serbia and Kosovo were going toward conflict — it would’ve been a big war. I said, if that happens, you’re not going to trade with the U.S. And they said, look, maybe we won’t go in that direction. The same thing happened with India and Pakistan,” Trump added.

Recently, Trump has repeatedly brought up Kosovo and Serbia, claiming credit for having prevented a war between them.
