Faton Peci, co-leader of the Guxo party, spoke following his meeting with President Vjosa Osmani regarding the ongoing parliamentary deadlock. Peci stated there are uncertainties about what will happen once the 30-day deadline for the Assembly’s constitution passes, emphasizing that the consequences are not easily predictable.
Constitutional Court Ruling Remains Ambiguous
“The truth is, we have all now become experts in interpreting the Constitutional Court’s judgment, I say ‘experts’ in quotation marks. The issue is that there is uncertainty about what the action will be, and it’s not easily predictable what the consequences will be,” Peci said, as reported by Gazeta Express. “In such a circumstance, there is a possibility that the President might even turn to the Constitutional Court again to further clarify what it intended when it set the 30-day deadline.”
VV Claims Speaker Position, Peci Appeals to Opposition
Peci also reiterated that the position of Assembly Speaker belongs to Vetëvendosje (VV). “The will of the citizens was very clear; VV and its partners have only one guaranteed position, that position is the Speaker of the Assembly. Any other attempt is an effort to block the country,” he declared.
Additionally, Peci appealed to the parties of the former opposition to, as he put it, “call on reason and common sense.”
“I take this opportunity to appeal to all political parties, to call on reason, common sense, and to enable the election and constitution of the Assembly. Because this is the only way for us to have a government in 15 days, and if we cannot, the opportunity will be given to others,” he concluded.
