Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has declared Kosovo’s re-admission to the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) a “great and important success.” This achievement, he stated, “stands as a testament to the work and commitment to increasing the quality of higher education and aligning it with European standards.”
Full Access to EU Programs and International Cooperation
Kurti emphasized that EQAR membership will grant Kosovo’s universities and students “full access to EU programs and enable them to benefit from mobility, scholarships, and international cooperation.”
Kosovo had previously been a member of EQAR but lost its membership in 2018 due to “political interference by the then-PAN government in the structure of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (AKA).”
Kurti highlighted that his government, through the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, began supporting AKA in 2021, providing the necessary conditions for it to operate independently, autonomously, professionally, and with dedication.
“Now, not only have we returned as members, but with full rights, being the first country in the Western Balkans with this status,” Kurti proudly noted, underscoring the significance of this milestone for Kosovo’s higher education system.
