Igor Popović, a Serbian government official arrested in Kosovo for insulting the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), appeared before the court on Friday. The hearing has concluded, and the verdict is expected at 14:00.
Prosecutor Fikrije Krasniqi-Fejzullahu proposed a six-month prison sentence, to be replaced by a €3,000 fine and a two-year deportation from Kosovo.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office welcomed the decision of the Basic Court in Prishtina to approve the plea agreement with Popović.
Popović is accused of deliberately inciting hatred and intolerance between ethnic groups. An initial hearing will be held on the case.
On August 5, the Special Prosecutor’s Office announced it had reached a plea deal with Popović, the Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo in the Serbian Government.
Popović was arrested on July 19 at the border crossing point in Bërnjak, a day after delivering a speech in the village of Hoçë e Madhe in Rahovec, during which he called the Kosovo Liberation Army a terrorist organization.
