Lawyer Ardian Bajraktari has strongly condemned the restrictions and procedures imposed on former President Hashim Thaçi, comparing them to the persecutions of the Inquisition era.
“The restrictions against Mr. Thaçi are disproportionate and unreasonable, especially when the first case is nearing its end, while in the second, investigations have been completed. This shows the abnormality of this process,” Bajraktari wrote.
He stated that in the first case, prosecutors failed to prove the claim that the Kosovo Liberation Army could be considered a “joint criminal enterprise,” relying instead on what he described as “highly non-credible” evidence, accepted from a state that committed genocide.
“It is illusory to think that a person, after nearly five years in detention, could obstruct any official in carrying out their duties, especially when serious force or threat are essential elements of this criminal offense,” he added.
According to him, this type of persecution, more often read about in history books, is unjustly being carried out against “our heroes,” inflicting a heavy and harmful blow.
