A tragic accident occurred on Monday afternoon on the Egnatia Highway, involving a collision between a truck, another truck, and two additional vehicles.
Three Albanian nationals lost their lives in the crash: Viktor Bushi, Klarenc Kacaj, and Marianka Bushi (Aliraj). Magdalena Kacaj survived but was injured.
A witness at the scene described the harrowing moments:
“We could hear the three people begging to be pulled out. ‘Get us out, get us out,’ they screamed. They were burning alive. We saw it with our own eyes, and all three were charred. We could not free them; they were trapped.”
The witness said the events unfolded extremely quickly. Tires began to explode, and one of the vehicles was immediately engulfed in flames:
“The car caught fire instantly. There were multiple explosions. The fire from the truck was intense and fast-moving.”
The victims were residents of Athens, returning from a wedding in the city of Xanthi. The fatal collision occurred when a 59-year-old truck driver first crashed into another truck, which was carrying his pregnant daughter, her husband, and their two children aged 4 and 6, before striking the vehicle carrying the Albanian victims.
