Vetëvendosje MP, Shqipe Mehmeti-Selimi, confirmed that she did not vote for Donika Gërvalla as Speaker of the Assembly.
She explained that her decision was not driven by party motives, but by Gërvalla’s past social media posts targeting Rexhep Selimi.
“In response to the significant interest from the media and the public regarding why I did not take part in today’s vote, I wish to clarify that my non-participation is not connected to party motives. It relates to posts dated February 7 and March 25, 2020, which I am attaching here. I am making this clarification in the name of transparency and out of respect for the public, the media, and especially the supporters and voters of Vetëvendosje. I thank my colleagues, activists, and voters of the Movement for their understanding,” she wrote.
However, Gërvalla was forgiven by both Kurti and Konjufca.
At Kurti’s instruction, Donika Gërvalla was proposed for Assembly Speaker by MP Glauk Konjufca. Both of them voted in favor of her candidacy. Yet, she did not succeed, as she lacked the necessary votes.
