Emine Erdoğan, First Lady of Turkey, addressed a letter to Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States, expressing hope that the sensitivity Trump showed toward orphaned children in Ukraine will also be applied to children in Gaza, reports Anadolu Agency.
In her letter, Emine Erdoğan reflected on their meeting at the White House six years ago, noting that Trump’s warmth and elegant hospitality remain vivid in her memory. She recalled that during their private dinner and garden walk, she was impressed by Trump’s deep awareness of pressing humanitarian issues—a sensitivity also reflected in Trump’s recent letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Erdoğan emphasized that she considers Trump’s words as a reflection of shared human values and respects this moral stance. She highlighted the universal right of children to grow up in a loving and safe environment, regardless of region, ethnicity, religion, or ideology, and described supporting the oppressed as a fundamental responsibility toward humanity.
She praised Trump’s concern for the children orphaned by the war in Ukraine, noting that 648 children have lost their lives in the conflict. Erdoğan called on Trump to demonstrate the same care for Gaza, where 62,000 civilians—including 18,000 children—have been killed over the past two years, urging a continued commitment to protect innocent lives.
