Prominent lawyer Arianit Koci has issued a strong reaction regarding the failure to constitute the Assembly of Kosovo, warning of direct action if political deadlock continues.
In a post on Facebook, Koci revealed that he had a conversation with a member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), who allegedly stated that the party would only support Dimal Basha for the position of Assembly Speaker, but not any other candidate from the ruling Vetëvendosje Movement (VV).
“If they propose Dimal again, we will vote for him. If VV proposes someone else – we won’t vote!” the PDK member reportedly told Koci.
The lawyer reminded the opposition of their public promises:
“Stop the games! You, PDK, have promised that you will vote for any MP who is not part of the government. Therefore, keep your word!” he wrote.
Koci also announced that if a Speaker is not elected by the end of this week, he will set up a tent in front of the Assembly on Monday as a form of protest.
The standoff over the election of the Assembly Speaker has further deepened the political impasse in Kosovo, with both the ruling majority and the opposition refusing to compromise on candidates.
