Anu Prattipati, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, has stated that the removal of tariffs on American products in Kosovo will significantly strengthen economic relations between the United States and Kosovo.
Prattipati highlighted that by eliminating the tariffs, Kosovo has improved access to U.S. products, making them more affordable and accessible for citizens.
Last month, Kosovo removed the 10% customs duty on American goods, a move that opens new investment opportunities for U.S. businesses and boosts bilateral trade.
“This is a major achievement and a turning point in our partnership. Kosovo’s decision to remove tariffs on American products reflects our shared vision for more trade, investment, and prosperity. Actions like this deepen and strengthen our trade and investment framework. This decision benefits both countries and will further strengthen bilateral trade, fostering economic growth,” Prattipati said during a discussion hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo.
Panel discussion highlights:
- Hekuran Murati, Acting Minister of Finance, emphasized that the decision could pave the way for a free trade agreement between Kosovo and the U.S., strengthening strategic partnership and encouraging foreign investment.
- Agron Llugaliu, Director of Customs, stated that the tariff removal will positively impact multiple sectors and enhance Kosovo’s economic cooperation with EU countries under the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA).
- Arian Zeka, Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, highlighted that the move will expand trade and increase U.S. investment in Kosovo.
