Albanian President Bajram Begaj welcomed several of the first Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) fighters who were trained in 1991 at the Surrel Military Unit by instructors of the former United Officers’ School in Albania.
Begaj stressed that this event must be given its rightful place in history, describing it as the nucleus of the KLA.
“With the first fighters for the liberation of Kosovo, who were trained in 1991 at the Surrel Military Unit by instructors of the former United Officers’ School. This event must be recognized for its historic weight, as it was there that the great flame for Kosovo’s liberation was lit – the very first nucleus of the KLA. Eternal honor to all those who sacrifice for the Albanian cause,” Begaj wrote, while sharing images from his meeting with the veterans.
During the gathering, the former fighters expressed their gratitude to the Albanian state for its support during the Kosovo conflict.
“We are witnesses of a living history – one that has been too little valued, and one that must never be forgotten,” President Begaj emphasized.
