The German Ambassador to Tirana, Karl Bergner, has reacted following the opening of applications for the successor to the head of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK).
In a statement shared by the German Embassy in Tirana, the ambassador praised the work of Altin Dumani, highlighting his remarkable contributions in leading SPAK’s fight against corruption and organized crime in Albania.
“Under Altin Dumani’s leadership, SPAK has made extraordinary contributions in the fight against corruption and organized crime in Albania. The strong trust of the Albanian population and international partners in SPAK’s work underscores this impressively,” Ambassador Bergner stated.
Regarding the selection process launched today by the High Prosecutorial Council for SPAK’s new chief, Bergner stressed the importance of a transparent, merit-based procedure, free from external influence.
“The independence of the judiciary—which must be reflected both in the ongoing selection process and in the daily actions of executive and legislative institutions—is a key criterion for Germany when it comes to the rule of law and Albania’s preparation for EU membership,” he concluded.
