The world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich was temporarily closed on Wednesday after a bomb threat connected to a fatal explosion in a northern neighborhood of the city, according to Reporteri.net.

Police confirmed that a threatening letter was sent by the suspected perpetrator demanding the shutdown of the festival. As a precaution, the entire Theresienwiese area, where Oktoberfest is held, was closed until 17:00 local time.

The incident is linked to a morning explosion in the Lerchenau district, where a house caught fire. Authorities stated that the explosion was intentional, stemming from a domestic dispute. One person was found dead, and another remains missing, though officials said there is no ongoing danger to the public.

At the scene, explosive devices were discovered, prompting special forces to intervene and neutralize them.

Munich’s Mayor, Dieter Reiter, emphasized that public safety is the top priority and announced that thorough security checks would continue until the evening.

The U.S. Consulate in Munich also issued a warning, urging American citizens to avoid the Oktoberfest area due to the ongoing threat.
