Speaker of the Assembly, Dimal Basha, has confirmed that the Kosovo Assembly is now officially constituted, following the election of Nenad Rashiq as Deputy Speaker from the Serb community.
“I have the pleasure to announce that with 71 votes in favor, we have elected the fifth Deputy Speaker, thus completing the constitution of the Assembly of Kosovo. It was a regular and well-conducted procedure. Everything went smoothly, and from now on, the Assembly can continue its work,” Basha stated.
He responded to PDK’s concerns by saying that their doubts are legitimate but unfounded, as all procedures were properly followed:
“PDK has the right to raise its concerns, but the procedures were entirely regular. Nine candidates were voted on three times each — we had to ensure equal opportunity. After their proposals were rejected, I was obliged to refer to paragraph seven, and I believe the process was legitimized with 71 votes in favor. This is a constitutionally guaranteed right,” he said.
Regarding the possibility of extraordinary elections, Basha noted that this will depend on political discussions:
“We now have a constituted Assembly. Hopefully, we’ll soon have a government too — that depends on political dialogue. The deadlines are now running; there are two weeks for the first nominee. But all such questions should be addressed to the leading party,” he concluded.
