The European Union Ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, stated that the EU remains committed to its enlargement process, but in the case of Kosovo, it requires partners and a stable government.

“We are at a decisive moment for Kosovo, for the Western Balkans, and for the European Union. The enlargement package approved by the European Commission clearly demonstrates this. In a rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the EU is ready to respond appropriately and to bring closer those partners with European aspirations,” Orav said.

According to him, EU enlargement is strategic—a long-term investment in stability, prosperity, and security.

“While we implement this vision, political commitment to reforms is essential. In some countries, we have seen remarkable progress, and further reforms could make their EU membership a reality within this decade. Your neighbors, Albania and Montenegro, are on the right track. It is equally important now for the EU to prepare for a larger and stronger Union,” he added.

Orav emphasized that the European Commission will soon present its findings on how future enlargements will impact key policy areas.

“While there is momentum on the EU side, that alone is not enough. And here I want to focus on Kosovo. Let me say this very clearly: to help you advance on the path to EU integration, we need partners. We need a government that cooperates—a government backed by a strong parliamentary majority, capable of advancing fundamental freedoms for the benefit of Kosovo’s citizens. And in this regard, unfortunately, this has been a lost year,” Orav declared.
