Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the rapidly unfolding developments in Iran during the opening of a meeting of the Israeli government cabinet.
Netanyahu stated that Israel is following events in Iran closely and with particular attention, as pro-freedom protests have spread across the country.
“The people of Israel, like the rest of the world, express admiration for the extraordinary courage shown by the citizens of Iran,” he said.
According to the Israeli prime minister, Israel supports the efforts of Iranian citizens to achieve freedom and strongly condemns acts of violence and mass killings against innocent civilians.
“We all hope that the Persian nation will soon be freed from the yoke of tyranny. And when that day comes, Israel and Iran will once again be reliable partners in building a future of prosperity and peace for both peoples,” Netanyahu stated.
His remarks come at a time when international speculation is growing about a possible U.S. military intervention against Iran, while the situation in the region remains tense.
