President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, together with Speaker of Parliament Dimal Basha and the acting Prime Minister, paid homage on the 45th anniversary of the assassination of Jusuf and Bardhosh Gërvalla and Kadri Zeka.

Speaking on the occasion, President Osmani said that January 17 remains one of the most tragic dates in Kosovo’s history, marking the brutal killing of Jusuf and Bardhosh Gërvalla and Kadri Zeka, prominent figures of the national liberation movement.

She also recalled that Smajl Hajdaraj was killed on the same date, describing the day as one of multiple losses but also profound national pride.

“This is a day of multiple losses, but at the same time a day of great pride for our nation,” Osmani said.
“They became the voice of an oppressed people and, in extremely difficult times, risked everything, transforming themselves into beacons of freedom.”

The President emphasized that their sacrifice laid the foundations for the freedom and statehood enjoyed today.

“It was their sacrifice that paved the way forward for our people, enabling us to enjoy today the state for which they gave everything,” Osmani stated.

The commemoration honored the enduring legacy of the three activists, whose dedication and courage continue to symbolize resistance, sacrifice, and the struggle for freedom and independence.
