French President Emmanuel Macron has responded to Donald Trump regarding his threat of tariffs.
“France is committed to the sovereignty and independence of nations, in Europe and elsewhere,” Macron said in a social media post, according to Sky News via Gazeta Express.
“This guides our decisions. It supports our engagement with the United Nations and its Charter.”
Macron added that “on this basis, we support and will continue to support Ukraine.”
He continued: “On this basis, we have also decided to join the exercise organized by Denmark in Greenland. We stand behind this decision, especially because it concerns security in the Arctic and the borders of Europe.”
The French president emphasized that European leaders will not be influenced by intimidation or threats.
“Threats of tariffs are unacceptable and have no place in this context,” he said.
“Europeans will respond in a united and coordinated manner if these threats are confirmed. We will know how to defend European sovereignty.
In this spirit, I will speak with our European partners.”
