The Emergency Department at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) faced an exceptionally high patient load over the past two days, treating around 900 cases during the weekend.

According to ShSKUK, this represents an extraordinary workload for the medical teams. Among these cases, 61 involved traffic accidents.

The breakdown of emergency care included:

  • 194 resuscitation cases
  • 302 internal medicine treatments
  • 183 orthopedic cases
  • 137 surgical cases
  • 33 minor interventions

All services were carried out by teams of specialist doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department.

ShSKUK noted that a significant number of patients came directly to the emergency department, bypassing primary and secondary healthcare services. Authorities urge citizens to use family medicine centers and regional hospitals for non-emergency cases, emphasizing that the emergency department should be reserved for serious, life-threatening cases.

Public cooperation is essential to ensure timely medical care for patients who are in direct life-threatening situations,” the statement added.
